Duties of administrator and employees

What are the duties of the operator (manager of the devices)?

He must establish a physical control service responsible for establishing and controlling the necessary measures such as:

  • Delineation and signage of controlled areas.
  • Examination and control of protective equipment.
  • Formulate proposals for additional protective equipment and practices .

There must be regular medical check-ups of workers who are professionally exposed to radiation: Students and physicians who come into contact with radiation are also subject to the same examinations.

Every year before the first of March, a document per employee is sent to the Minister, showing the incurred dose for the previous year. One of the copies then goes on to be sent to the Agency.

Every employee should be given solid information, particularly about:

  • Occupational health hazards and possibly first aid.
  • The basic standards of protection against exposure to ionizing radiation
  • The meaning of warning signs, symbols and entries used to designate and delineate certain areas.

In addition, there must be appropriate training, specific to the workers’ workplace, regarding the use of devices and sources that emit ionizing radiation.

This at:

  • Recruitment
  • Transfer
  • Introduction of and new work equipment (e.g. new appliance)
  • Introduction of a new technology

Information and training are given during working hours.

What duties do employees have?

Every worker must follow the safety regulations. It is forbidden to unnecessarily expose oneself to radiation, damage or take away the safety equipment.

Any irregularity or defect in the protective equipment must be reported immediately.

In addition, each worker must contribute to their own radiological protection.
